Introduction to the job
In the IT R&D FC DevEnv we provide the development environment for large groups of software developers. These developers work on the software that controls our high-tech machines. Next to continuous enhancement of the existing environment we are implementing a new set of state-of-the-art off-the-shelf tools (e.g. source control management, software build and pipeline management, artifact storage, etc.). The FC DevEnv is set up, in line with the ASML Development Methodology (ADM), as a scaled agile organization with multiple Agile Release Trains (ARTS).
We are looking for an experienced, passionate and pro-active Release Train Engineer that can play a key role in bringing our agile journey to the next level and further optimize the efficiency and delivery focus of the teams in one of the Agile Release Trains. He/she acts as an empowering leader to enable the success of the trains, can coach Scrum Masters and collaborates closely with other RTE’s.
This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work.
Role and responsibilities
You are an excellent Release Train Engineer with knowledge of Software Engineering processes. As a Release Train Engineer you are part of the ‘Leading Coalition’, together with the SA (System Architect) and the CPO (Chief Product Owner) of the Agile Release Train (ART) .
The ART is responsible for delivering and maintaining multiple components of the Development Environment the FC DevEnv deliver to its customers. You have an intrinsic drive towards continuous improvement and ensures delivery of solutions to achieve PI objectives committed by the team.
-Optimizes the flow of value and solutions to achieve the PI objectives
-Ensures that risks and impediments are solved by the Train or properly escalated
-Provides insights and transparency on metrics such as: maturity, stability, predictability, happiness, Feature cycle time, stakeholder satisfaction, performance and quality of the value delivered
-Ensures the agile mindset and ASML values (Care, Collaborate & Challenge) are present in the Train
-Uses the ADM to improve the way of working of the Train and share good practices
-Ensures that the teams are supported and coached on all roles inside the Train (e.g., PO, SM) and in the environment of the Train (e.g., DM, GL) to create high performing teams and Train
-Contributes where possible to the RTEx community on cross-Train way of working alignment and improvement
-Actively ensures the possible gap of competences is visible towards the GL (e.g., for example impact analysis when competences are missing)
-Works together with the GL on long-term capacity planning based on the Trains future needs
-Is actively involved in creating a vision on the optimal high performing Train and stimulates members of the Train to collaborate towards that vision
-Connects and aligns with CPO and System Architect on overall strategy.
Education and experience
-Bachelor or Master degree with substantial experience in engineering or IT
-Experienced in working at tactical and strategical level.
-Has an extensive knowledge and experience with iterative development fundamentals and teaches this to others.
-Is a skilled communicator, networker, negotiator and mediator.
-Visualize tradeoffs and drive decision making.
-Shows initiative, strong analytical skills and problem-solving attitude.
-Highly motivated team player, good social skills, with a strong service/customer orientation.
-Substantial experience in team-building and facilitation, removing roadblocks.
